As of March 2025, Insight Engine™ now includes features supported by generative AI!
What are the capabilities?
In this first release, you can generate an AI summary for any docket document in Insight Engine. Instead of reading through long, complex PDFs, simply hit the "generate" button to get a concise summary of the key points.
How do I use the AI Summaries feature?
You can generate a summary for any document in Insight Engine. Just choose a document to view, and then follow the steps below.
When viewing a document, you'll see the "generate" button:
Once you've hit "generate," you'll get a concise summary of the document:
If you go back to the same document later, you can view the summary again by choosing "show" ("generate" will change to show/hide once the summary has been created).
For filings that contain multiple documents, you can choose which document(s) to generate summaries for.
What about the Insights summaries from Advanced Energy United's policy team? Are these AI-generated?
No - there is no change to the Insights that our policy team provides for key dockets and bills in the clean energy space! You can find dockets or bills that have Insights written for them by going to the "Insights" tab on the search pages. The Insights are intended to 1) identify the bill/docket as a significant piece of policy that our team is following, 2) provide an overview of the bill or docket, highlighting key policy points, and 3) provide updates at key points throughout the bill or docket's progress. They are 100% human-generated by our policy experts!
When viewing a bill or docket, just look for the "Insights" tab on the right side of the screen. If there is an Insight for that bill/docket, you'll see it there.
By contrast, the new AI Summaries feature is limited to docket documents and generated on-demand. The AI Summaries will only be able to summarize what's in a given document - they can't provide additional context about the docket or why the policy is significant. By using Insights from our policy team in addition to AI Summaries of docket documents, you'll be able to quickly get an overall understanding of the docket as well as easily pinpoint additional key details in documents.
Are there other AI-enabled features?
We will be releasing additional AI-supported features soon and will update this article accordingly! We would love to get your input as we're developing and testing these features -- if you're interested in learning more about our plans or providing feedback on prototypes and beta versions, reach out to us at info@insightengine.org.
What type of access do I have?
Access to AI Summaries is based on your plan as outlined below. This feature is included in your plan -- there is no additional cost.
Plan | Number of users | AI Summaries per month |
Pro |
Any number |
Unlimited
|
Essential, Essential + Rate Case, Essential + RTO | 1-5 | 100 |
Essential, Essential + Rate Case, Essential + RTO | More than 5 | 100 + 20 for each additional user above 5 (so accounts with 6 users would get 120 summaries, etc.) |
Free Accounts (media, academic, government, etc.) | Any number | AI Summaries are not available on free accounts at this time. If you'd like to explore a paid subscription, contact us at info@insightengine.org. |
The count of summaries used per month is on an account basis, not individual. If you only have one user on your account, and your plan has access to 100 summaries, that one user could generate all 100 summaries. Similarly, if you have 5 users on your account but only one user makes use of the summaries, they'd have access to all 100. You'll see a count of the summaries generated that month so you'll always know how many your account has left. For example:
Once one user on the account has generated a summary for a particular document, other users on the same account may view that document's summary without it counting against the monthly total.
For accounts with a limit on the number of summaries, the limit will reset on the first of each month.
If you have questions or need additional help, please let us know at info@insightengine.org.
What models are used?
For a complete list of the models used by Insight Engine, see here.
What information is shared with the model?
At this time, the only information we pass to the model is the content of the document for which a summary has been requested, and a prompt directing the model to summarize the provided information. No user information is passed to the model.
In addition, none of the information that we pass to the model is shared with the model provider (e.g. Anthropic).
However, if you would like to opt out of AI-supported features, email us at info@insightengine.org and we can remove the features from your account. We cannot accommodate individual user opt-outs, only accounts as a whole.
Does this alter the Terms of Service?
Yes, we have updated our Terms of Service to incorporate language about generative AI. Please take a moment to review the updated Terms.
